Highlights from Young Women's Leadership Conference
KIND's young women leaders embody
the ideal of leaders who serve others. As
they completed their year training, they
immediately began to implement(and in
some cases, expanded) projects developed to
address problems in their communities.
During the program, ten of the young
women submitted proposals to KIND to
secure seed funding for projects they wanted
to implement in their communities. Of
these, KIND funded six projects that covered
youth and conflict resolution, emergency
support for children internally displaced
due to ethnic conflict, HIV/AIDS, a short
documentary on women leaders, and
leadership development for young girls. The
young women began implementing these
projects in 2003 and will complete them in
2004. [Please refer to the left for full list and
description of grants].
Aside from these, two other members of
the 2003 class received funding from the
African Women's Development Fund for a
proposal they wrote during their seminar on
Designing a Community Project on HIV/
AIDS. Their project was implemented on
December 1st, International AIDS Day.
