This is a weekly round-up of activities/events organized and/or participated in by Kudirat Initiative for Democracy.

SMWIn the week of Monday 23rd to Friday 27th February, KIND attended two sessions at the Social Media Week which took place at Landmark Centre in Victoria Island. The sessions attended were on Effective Use of Twitter which was facilitated by Lisa Flowers, and Social Change which was organized and facilitated by Leap Africa.

With regards to the on-going construction of a block of Classrooms at Imoro Community Nursery and Primary School in Ogijo, we are glad to inform everyone that progress on the building is almost at the lintel level. This project which is sponsored by the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, is set to contribute to the improvement of the standard of educational infrastructures in Ogun State, with a view to achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

downloadFurthermore, KINDs Founder and President, Mrs. Hafsat Abiola-Costello, organized an evening with friends in New York City to share her incredible story of overcoming adversity and using her experience and voice to champion change. This event which drew friends and well wishers from across the United States highlighted the current issues affecting Nigerians, and KINDs activities to alleviate the plight of people in the country.

Fostering an Improved Education Sector

02.13.15

IMG_20141104_172544_857Following the GPP Contract Signing between KIND and the Japanese Government for the construction of a Block of 6 Classrooms with 4 Toilets, Provision of 138 sets of desk and chairs for the students, and 7 tables and 8 chairs for the teachers, which was carried out at the Office of the Governor of Ogun State on the 4th of November 2014, work has already commenced at the site of the school.

The project which is coming as at a time when the world is reviewing the Millennium Development Goals, which includes access to education for all, is being carried out under the watch of the Office of the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on MDGs, the Imoro Community Residents Association and the school’s Parent-Teacher Association.

On completion, this project would help to reduce the overcrowding in the classes available now, which has become highly uncomfortable for learning as a result of heat and limited space. In the words of the Head Teacher, “we are glad that finally Imoro Community Nursery and Primary School has been remembered for a project such as this, and we are looking forward to the completion”. Imoro Community Nursery and Primary School is located at Igijo in Shagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
