On Wednesday, March 29th, 2017.
The conference witnessed networking of participants, learning about issues surrounding women empowerment and how to overcome such barriers. Ms. Asim-Ita gave a presentation on Women Inclusiveness at the Workplace; A Pathway to Gender Equality. She mentioned that gender diverse policies are essential at the workplace and the unique needs of women must be recognized. Mrs. Adedayo spoke on the topic Women Economic Empowerment through Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition. She emphasized that eliminating violence against women at the workplace can increase productivity by 40%. She added that women need to create goals, get an education in a chosen field, and imbibe the attitude of empowering other women. She buttressed her points with a case study of Julian Omala; CEO of Delight Uganda who defied all odds and empowered herself to become one of the top female entrepreneurs in Uganda and an employer of labour. Mrs. Ayenuro made a presentation on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls; A prerogative for Women Empowerment. She emphasized that men need to be sensitized on the real stories surrounding violence against women and girls for better understanding. She added that more campaigns that encourage victims to speak up should be broadcasted in order for perpetrators to be punished.
The conference also featured two interactive breakout sessions which proffered recommendations on; Transitioning women to STEM Careers and Engaging Men as Advocates for Women Empowerment.
At the end of the conference, participants had a shift to perspectives and were encouraged to break through mental and emotional limitations; they envisioned greater possibilities in empowering other women and speaking up for one another, and there was a call to have more of such empowerment conferences in the remote areas.
